Lecture Performance & Artistic Inputs

An introduction to Afrofuturism on an artistic, theoretical and conversational level. Afrofuturism is an aesthetic, a philosophy, a form of expression, a world view, a way of being and thinking. In an accessible format, we present insights into the understanding of Afrofuturism, share knowledge on its development and demonstrate artistic afrofuturist inputs.

With artistic works on display, the evening opens with a short lecture, continues with a conversational exchange and is framed by a performance. Together we create a space for centring Black perspectives as well as imagining futures, pasts and presents within Africa and its diaspora.

Adyam Tesfamariam is a DJ, radio host, writer and researcher about Afrofuturism, based in Berlin and of Eritrean Descent. Her work revolves around liberating practices that weave together past, present and future of African and Black identities. She draws inspiration from the Black Atlantic through the Black Cosmos, sharing her passion for word, sound and imagination.

Natisa Exocé Kasongo is a multidisciplinary artist and visionary whose goal is to integrate his diverse disciplines into a unified whole. His idea of developing a completely new discipline stems from understanding the essence that connects his various practices to himself and his purpose for creating. His education and exploration of his multicultural heritage are profound reasons for this quest for authenticity. While his approach may not be conventional, it becomes increasingly comprehensible, and each application he creates aims to make the objective as concrete as possible.

Astan Ka is an artistic performer, song-writer, singer, experimental rapper, mover, actress and event curator based in Berlin. Born in France and traveling regularly to Mali since the age of 3, Astan grew up with a double culture which led her to consider herself today as a "child of reconciliation".
