1 Camera – 41 Destinations – 5 Continents.

Gegen die zunehmende Polarisierung in der Gesellschaft stellt die Kölner Künstlerin Ela Mergels ihr aktuelles Projekt BEYOND BORDERS vor.
Ihre analoge Kamera reist um die Welt, immer mit einem Freund zu einem Einheimischen. Dieser hat die Aufgabe, das zu fotografieren, was ihm/ihr im Leben wichtig ist. Wenn die Kamera zurückkehrt, wird der Film zurückgespult und ein zweites Mal für die nächste Reise eingelegt. So erzählen zwei Fremde gemeinsam eine neue Geschichte mit Hilfe von Doppelbelichtungen.

Against the growing polarisation in today‘s world, the Cologne based artist Ela Mergels launches her current project BEYOND BORDERS.

​Her analogue camera travels around the world, always with a friend to a local. This person has the task to take pictures of what is important to him / her in life. When the camera returns, the film is rewound and inserted a second time for the next journey. This is how two strangers together tell a new story through double exposures.
